Fiber Splint: Fiber Splint is made from natural brown kraft paper. It has the look of a Hickory splint when woven into chair seats. This product is also used in some Shaker reproduction weaves. In this section, Fiber Splint is sold by the pound. The average size 14" x 14" chair seat uses 2-3 pounds of Fiber Splint. This flat kraft paper product should only be used indoors. Do not soak this product in water. No finish like shellac is required after the seat is woven with the splint. Fiber splint is also used for basket making and assorted crafts. Fiber Splint also goes by Fibre Splint. The spelling of Fiber is interchangeable and is used both ways.
